Sillery Gaon, situated at an altitude of 6000 ft. is a pristine village located in Kalimpong sub-division and only 26 km away from Kalimpong town. The place has been set up by the rich volume of forestation. The unique location with Nepal on the West, Sikkim on the North-East and Bengal on the south gives a mesmerizing view of Himalayan range at 180-degree vision. The name Sillery Gaon has been derived from a plant which grows abundant beneath the foothills of Himalayas. The stunning views of the surroundings with Himalayan mountain range has made this hamlet a precious place which attracts numerous tourists.

Sightseeing in and around Sillery Gaon

Surrounded by luxuriant forest and the shimmering rivers, there are a plethora of sightseeing places that can be visited in and around Sillerygaon. Tinchuley View Point or Tinchuley Top is a stiff uphill point. A short trek around 30 meters uphill is enough to reach Tinchuley point. This viewpoint has something amazing to offer, a complete 360-degree view of the majestic Himalayan ranges along with the magnificent Mt. Kanchendzonga.

Another attraction for the travellers is Ramitey viewpoint. It is around 30 k.m. away from Sillery Gaon which leads to a marvellous view of the natural surroundings. Apart from the views of mighty Himalayan ranges, the appealing view of the Teesta river along with its 14 bends will definitely amaze you. The conflux of river Teesta and river Reshi can be sighted from Ramitey viewpoint. On a brighter day, Teesta Bazar and Majhitar in Sikkim can also be seen from here.

Damsang Fort is a historical place which can be reached by a short trek of 4 k.m. Damsang Fort is only a kilometre away from Pedong. The way towards the Fort will surprise you by the views of the stunning valleys and the surrounding mountains. Apart from the heritage, it is an ideal place for the bird enthusiasts too. Ascending a bit, there is a temple of Lord Hanuman where an idol is placed which is known as Hanuman top. The place offers an amazing view of Kalimpong and the adjoining areas.

Cross Hill is located a few kilometres away from Sillery Gaon. The beautiful views of the mountains are just radiant in Cross Hill. It's actually a pilgrimage point for the local Christian community and often been visited by them. The vision of Tibet is very clear from here.

How to reach Sillery Gaon

There are no direct railways or flights to Sillery Gaon. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and Bagdogra Airport are the nearest railway station and airport respectively. One can hire a cab from any of those junctions and depart for Sillery Gaon. One needs to reach Pedong first and from there a little path will lead towards the ultimate destination of Sillery Gaon. From NJP and Bagdogra it is about 90 kilometres which may take 4 and a half hours approximately.

Sillery Gaon is limited in the matter of accommodations. Few homestays are there which can be pre-booked. Though there are home stays yet it is quite blissful to stay on those shelters in a place like this. Best Time to visit Sillery Gaon

Sillery Gaon can be visited throughout the entire year except in monsoon. Monsoon will not be very wise to travel to Sillery gaon, due to landslides sometimes roads remains blocked for long period. In winter it is quite cold. One needs to carry warm clothes adequately while visiting Sillery Gaon. Though in summer the weather remains very pleasant. The cool wind blows like an easy breeze. It is often visited by travellers in summer.
