Rongli is a small hilltop town with full of amazing natural arena on the foothills of the great Himalayan mountain ranges. Situated in the eastern part of Sikkim, Rongli is one of the ancient towns in the circuit of the well-famed Old Silk Route. The easy-going town has been divided by the beautiful Rongpo River from the middle of the town and hence the name Rongli has derived. Rongli is one of the major trading hubs in the eastern Sikkim and eventually has a vast contribution in the economy.

Though the zone dwells with well-known Rongli market yet the place has some quality to please one with the immense greenery and the tranquil aura.   • Aritar Lake: Aritar is a well-known tourist spot on the eastern part of Sikkim. It is a small town with numerous things to do and visit. The best part of Aritar is the Aritar Lake or popularly known as Lampokhari Lake. The clean water and the surrounding Pine forest attract tourists and being visited by them throughout the year.
  • Aritar Monastery: Apart from the Lampokhari Lake the Aritar Monastery is also a divine place to visit in Aritar. The sculpture on the monastery is so wonderful and inside the monastery there is a huge idol of Guru Padmasambhava.
  • Pedong Monastery: The Pedong monastery or well-known by Sangchen Dorjee Monastery is one of the aboriginal monasteries in the country. Inside the monastery there are numerous illustrations of Buddhism and scriptures as a lesson for the monks.
  • Lingtam: Lingtam, is such a marvellous off-beat suburbs in the entire region and perhaps the most peaceful and clean. If one is planning to visit Rongli, a must visit destination is Lingtam to enjoy the stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayan mountain ranges and tranquil abodes with the green lush pasture like a piece of paradise. There are few places nearby which can be explored as it is the gateway of Old Silk Route.

How to reach the Village

Since Rongli is a well-known town, reaching it is quite easy. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in Siliguri and for the flights there is Bagdogra Airport. Booking a car from the tour planners earlier for Rongli will be easier or one can hire a cab from the station for Rangpo and change into a local taxi for Rongli. From Siliguri to Rongli directly will take around 4 hours which is about 110 kilometres and from Rangpo it is about an hour drive for 30 kilometres.

Best Time to Visit Rongli in Sikkim

Rongli can be visited throughout the year except monsoon season. In summer the weather remains a bit humid but pleasant as the temperature stays 15-20°C and in winter temperature falls down to 5-15°C usually as it is in the Himalayan foothills. In monsoon the roads becomes very difficult and avoiding it will be wise as neither the views of the mountains are visible nor the intern substances. Best time to visit is both the summer and winter as it offers different outlooks on different season with pleasant climate.
