Lingtam is a remote hamlet situated at an altitude of 5000 ft. above sea level and the gateway of the renowned Old Silk Route. Lingtam is considered as the most beautiful offbeat destination in Sikkim among some of the tourist community. Located in the Eastern part of Sikkim Lingtam is well-known for its natural picturesque landscape and the splendid views of the Mt. Kanchendzonga and the other Himalayan peaks.

Lingtam itself is one of the best off-beat suburbs in the entire region but still if one is planning to visit Lingtam and stay for a while to enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayan mountain ranges and tranquil abodes, there are few places nearby which can be explored as it is the gateway of Old Silk Route.

Places to visit around the Village

A scenically blessed hamlet known for its peaceful ambience, panoramic view of the mighty Kanchenjunga, luxuriant forest and snaking rivers, Lingtam has a lot of sightseeing attractions to offers to its peace-seeking tourists and they are as follows.

Aritar Lake or Lampokhari Lake is one of the most popular destinations near the village. Situated at the height of 4800 ft. Lampokhari Lake is the highest lake in Sikkim with boating facility. The clean serene water surrounded by the rich Pine forest attracts Numerous visitors towards it. The nearby Aritar monastery with its vast beautiful structure and sculpture is also a must-visit place.

Standing at the height of 2000 ft. under the Kalimpong district, Reshikhola is another pristine sightseeing place nearby. The shimmering Reshi River and the complete tranquillity of nature is the major attraction of the village. Moreover, other sightseeing places near this hamlet are Ghambari Fall, Rongli, Padamchen, Zuluk, etc.

Things to Do in and around the Village

Bird enthusiast may find this place as a paradise as numerous birds can be seen here. Birds like Blood Pheasant, Orientwal Honey Buzzard, White Crested Laughingthrust, Khalij Pheasant and lot more. Treskking through the several trekking routes and relishing the magnificent view of the Himalayan peaks while nature walking can also be done here in the village.

How to reach Lingtam

There is no direct transport facility from NJP railway station or Bagdogra Airport to Lingtam. But one can pre-book a car from these places which can lead direct to Lingtam or else one may hire a cab till Rongli and from there change on a local taxi to Lingtam.

There is only a single homestay in Lingtam, but one can book homestays and hotels or resorts nearby Lingtam from us. The homestays are quite peaceful as well as clean and hygienic. It provides all kinds of basic needs including the cosy rooms along with heaters, western bathroom etc. The homely feeling you get there will be an everlasting memory.

Best time to visit Lingtam

Visiting Lingtam in summer will be wise. In the month of May-June the temperature grows up to 10-12 degree where in monsoon and in winter the weather falls in minus. In winter the temperature goes down to -17°C. So visiting the village in winter will be little risky as the chance of frost bite may occur.
