The India Lake on the Silk Route is located near Laxman Chowk in Sikkim at a height of roughly 12500 feet, and its water is so dark that it was given the name Kalpokhari. In Sikkimese, Kal signifies black or Kaala, and Pokhari indicates pond or lake. Kalpokhari is located in a valley that is used for yak grazing. From a certain angle, this lake resembles India's political map, hence it's also known as India Lake. It is believed to be a sacred lake with sacred fish in its depths, according to legend. The neighboring valley of this lake has a vertical drop of thousands of feet from which clouds peep and eventually gradually engulf this lake.
