Attractions in and around Tukla Valley
Tukla Valley's one of the major attraction is its war memorial. It was built in the memory of the British soldiers who were killed at the battle of Tukla. The panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga and its allied peaks look stunning from Tukla Valley. In short, the mountain lovers will surely love what they will witness from here. From Tukla Valley, one can visit Kupup Lake. Also known as Elephant Lake due to its Elephant like shape, it is 16 km away from the valley. At an elevation of 13,066 feet above sea level, to reach Kupup Lake, travelers have to climb up the mountains and hike through the hairpin bends which is not for the faint-hearted at all. However, once travelers successfully reach there, they will be greeted with a tranquil ambiance and the cerulean water body. Visit Yak Golf Course nearby which is one of the highest golf courses in the world. The Jelep la Pass is another attractive place one can visit. A mountain pass that connects Lhasa to India, Jelep La at an elevation of 14,390 feet above the sea level, is one of the highest mountain passes in the world.
How to Reach Tukla Valley
By Train: NJP is the nearest railway station. Once you reach NJP, travelers need to hire a car to Gangtok. It will be a journey of 5 hours. From Gangtok, it is another 2 hours of journey to finally reach Tukla Valley from Gangtok.
By Flight: Bagdogra is its nearest airport. Once you land at Bagdogra Airport, a rented car will take you to Gangtok first and then to Tukla Valley. It is usually recommended to pre-book a taxi to avoid the unnecessary hassle of bargaining.
By Road: From Siliguri, buses are available to Gangtok. However, from Gangtok to Tukla Valley, there is no bus service available and you have to rent car again.
Best Time to Visit Tukla Valley
Tukla Valley can be visited at any time of the year. During the season of winter, the entire valley gets carpeted with thick snow. It becomes completely red due to the local blooming flowers during the months of September to October.
